Fresher’s Orientation for the Class of 2031
The Orientation for the Class of 2031 was held on August 8, 2026 with a variety of events organised by the senior batches. Things started off with a name-badge making exercise, a fun and creative way to begin the day. Students were given the opportunity to personalise their own name badges using sketch pens, colours and their creativity. It also served a practical purpose throughout the day, as it made it easier for students to remember each other’s names and encouraged conversations beyond the usual “What’s your name?” introduction.
This was followed by one of the most chaotic, yet enjoyable, sessions of the day – Freshers’ Bingo. Each participant received a 5×5 Bingo card containing different statements and tasks, and had to find people who genuinely matched the descriptions on their cards. The activity was designed to encourage students to step outside their existing groups and interact with as many new people as possible. Since participants had to get the names or signatures of the people they found, it also gave everyone a fun and interactive way to remember their new classmates.
In keeping with the traditions of the law school, the fresh batch also participated in a debate, a team-based event organised for the juniors in a fun knockout format. The event introduced students to the basics of debating through quick preparation rounds, opening arguments, open-floor rebuttals and closing statements. Beyond the competitive aspect, it encouraged students to think on their feet, work together as a team, articulate their ideas clearly and engage with arguments from different perspectives.
Debate over, the first-years took part in a MELAS Quiz (Music, Entertainment, Literature, Art and Sports) was hosted by the Law School’s very own Quiz Society. With over 30 teams participating, the quiz covered a wide range of topics and was designed to test both general knowledge and awareness of current and popular culture.
The Orientation was also a good opportunity to introduce the incoming batch of the various Clubs and Societies of the law school. From the Moot Court Society and other academic clubs to cultural clubs such as the Music Club, each club presented something unique for students to explore. Up next was a Treasure Hunt, which gave the students a more active way of exploring the campus. The “hunt” involved exploring different parts of the campus, following clues, and working together to figure out the next stage.
The day concluded with an Open Mic and Karaoke session, providing students with a more relaxed and informal setting after a packed day of activities. It gave them an opportunity to perform, sing, interact with one another and simply enjoy the evening together.
